On Friday, October 29th, the 4th grade class walked to the Gilboa Cemetery to study local history and look for examples of weathering and erosion. It was a beautiful morning to be outside and learn about our rich local history.

This week the 5th and 6th grade students celebrated Halloween in the Library by participating in "Name that Dead Thing'. After watching Bill Nye's Bones video they tried to identify various bones from various "beings". The Bonus was a skull of the last person who did not return their library book....BAHAHAHAHA!

Lights on After School is an event celebrating CROP and its important role in students’ lives. We promote lights on afterschool to show the community all of the wonderful things we do and learn. Some community service projects we have done is sending cards to veterans, giving donations to the Schoharie County animal shelter, and donations to the women’s shelters. In the past, for Lights on Afterschool, we have also learned about the history of Old Gilboa, and how it used to be a main street town in the 1920’s. Lights on After School is the only national celebration of after school programs. Many after school events are held across the country in every state. They raise awareness of the role after school programs play to keep kids safe and give opportunity for student growth. This year is the 22nd annual celebration taking place each year on October 28th. In order to support our CROP program and our students, please turn on your lights at 6 pm on October 28th 2021!!

The annual Halloween Parade is a tradition at GCCS. This is a fun time and we always look forward to seeing everyone dressed up in their costumes as they parade around the gymnasium. Our parade this year will be Friday, October 29th. This event will be restricted to only elementary students and staff. We hope to livestream and record the event which will be posted on our website and social media pages for everyone to view. Further details will be forthcoming. Our main goal at this time is the safety of everyone in our building as well as the community, and this compromise allows our students to continue this great tradition while keeping everyone healthy and safe. We are looking forward to seeing all of the fantastic and creative costumes! Happy Halloween!!
